Stormy Seas

It has been a somewhat torrid few weeks and hence the stunning blog silence.

My 84 year old - and generally extremely feisty (aka stroppy) - mother, started complaining of heart palpitations and generally not feeling too well. Since she's one of those "difficult" patients, the doctor didn't take her too seriously and diagnosed gastric reflux... Well, two weeks later there I was calling in the paramedics and rushing her off to the trauma unit - with pneumonia and a minor heart attack. Let it not be said that she does things in half measures. Anyway, a few days in Intensive Care and a few more days in hospital and she was back home. But we won't even go there. Suffice it to say, she is on the mend.

I, on the other hand, am somewhat stressed out and have been obliged to try and slow down. I keep forgetting that I have limitations which need respecting or I will end up flat on my back or my face. Which means other than running around like the proverbial blue-arsed fly for my mother, not much has got done. I can't even remember when I last looked at my writing or did anything remotely writerly. Actually, come to think of it, I get the distinct impression I'm in dire need of some R&R. Since that is in very short supply at present, I thought I'd just take you with me on a virtual trip to one of Cape Town's fishing harbours in the very beautiful suburb of Hout Bay - maybe next week, I'll even manage to get there in person.

Sorry to hear it Nicks but very glad that your mum's stable and feisty once more. It is exhausting running after others to take that much needed downtime. Lovely photos as usual. Really must dust the cobwebs of my camera next weekend. Take it easy.

You are a good daughter, indeed. Now, I'm ready for an adventure too on the Nicky, off somewhere romantic.

Poor you. It's awful when circumstances are so out of your control. Still, glad all seems to be getting better and thanks for the virtual tour. Hope you get your real R&R soon.

Thanks, guys! Hoping all will settle down soon and I get my R&R - was hoping for one of those trips to the bush, but it can't be managed right now - will just have to look forward to Winchester... ;-)

Sorry your Mum's been unwell, but happy to know she's home and on the mend. Hout Bay makes me think of fresh-off-the-boat fish market and fish-on-the-rocks with chips....yummeeee!

Take care of yourself now!

May be you don't think you write, but the description of your mother is comical -
me thinks that you need a real dose of R&R:)

Firstly Welcome back to Blogland! (You were missed.)
Glad to hear your mom is on the mend...hard when family is seriously unwell!
Also, love the photos of Hout Bay - truly one of my favourite places in the world...last time I was there I was 11...we won't calculate how many years ago that would work out to be...suffice to say, too long ago...thanks for giving me a walk down memory lane through your photos.

So sorry Nicky, what a scare you all had. I'm going through scares too with my own Mum. I wish I didn't have to work so i could be with her more. I guess we do the best we can. I do hope you get the rest you'd like and need.
Hugs + love,
lori
